Cable ties were invented for bundling wires, but tradespeople, installers and farmers use them for dozens of other jobs. We collected 15 practical uses — from electrical installation to the garden — with a size recommendation for each.
Electrics and IT
1. Cable management in switchboards and server rooms. The classic: tidy cable runs, safe spacing, a clean result. Use UL94V-2 flammability class ties — Kraften ties are self-extinguishing. Suitable: 150×3.6 mm.
2. Tidying wires under the desk. Computer, monitor and charger cables bundled in a minute. 100×2.5 mm is enough.
3. Cable labelling. Different-coloured ties or ties with a marker plate help identify cables in runs.
4. Fixing cables to poles and façades. For outdoor lighting, cameras or internet cables use black UV-resistant 200–370 mm ties.
Construction and renovation
5. Securing conduit and pipes. Electrical conduit to rebar or structures — 250×4.5 mm or 300×4.8 mm.
6. Attaching safety nets and films. Scaffolding nets, greenhouse film, temporary covers — a tie withstands wind better than string. Choose 370 mm length.
7. Securing tools or ladders in transport. A 370×7.6 mm tie holds up to 45 kg.
Automotive and machinery
8. Fixing wires and hoses in the engine bay. Because of vibration choose wider (4.8 mm) ties rated from −40 °C to +85 °C.
9. Temporarily securing a bumper or trim. A black tie is the discreet, solid fix until repair.
10. Mounting number-plate frames and bike accessories. Lights, reflectors, baskets — no screws or drilling.
Garden and household
11. Tying plants to supports. Tomatoes, vines, young trees — tie loosely, leaving room for the stem to thicken.
12. Attaching fence mesh. Panel and chain-link fences — black UV-resistant ties last a decade.
13. Hanging fairy lights and decorations. Quick to fit, removed without a trace.
14. Hanging tools and equipment in the garage. Tie + hook = the cheapest storage system.
15. Securing luggage and boxes when travelling. A broken suitcase zip or a wobbly box on the roof rack — a tie saves the trip.
Using them right: 4 rules
- Load. Choose width by weight: 2.5 mm — up to 8 kg, 3.6 mm — up to 18 kg, 4.5–4.8 mm — up to 22 kg, 7.6 mm — up to 45 kg.
- Environment. Outdoors — only black UV-resistant PA66 ties.
- Tension. Don’t overtighten — especially wires and plants.
- Trimming. Cut the excess flush with the head.
One product covers all of these jobs — Kraften Premium cable ties: 8 sizes from 100 to 370 mm, packs of 100 pcs from €0.44, delivery within 1–2 business days across Lithuania.
